Through Kvarnkrysset AB, a company owned jointly with Nykvarn Municipality, Kilenkrysset AB has now signed a lease agreement with SEEL (Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory AB). The agreement was signed in November and concerns a new building on the property Mörby 5:54, located in Stockholm Syd Mörby, also known as Mörby Industrial Area.

For Nykvarn, the test bed means that the municipality becomes one of the players contributing to the development of the electrified transport of the future, says Gunilla Lindstedt, Chair of the Municipal Executive Board in Nykvarn.

It is a big, historic step for our municipality, which gets a clear role in the development of the electrified transport of the future. The building covered by the lease agreement will be approx. 3,700 sq m over two floors, with offices, test cells, control rooms, preparation areas, a workshop and supporting technical areas, and will be one of SEEL’s three test beds for research and development in electromobility.

The location in Nykvarn is strategically important for SEEL, and there we will be well placed to support academia and industry in working for electrification and clean transport. I look forward to seeing, together with Nykvarn Municipality, Kilenkrysset and Oljibe, the visions that have become plans now take shape and become reality,” says Henrik Svenningstorp, CEO of SEEL.
The building will be delivered under a construction contract and built by the construction company Oljibe, a modern building contractor with third-party certification to BF9K for quality, environment and occupational health and safety. The construction period is estimated at approx. 12 months, with construction starting immediately so that possession can take place in spring 2023.

Kvarnkrysset AB was formed in 2020 and is owned jointly by the property company Kilenkrysset AB (80%) and the Nykvarn municipal group (20%). The company is a property-owning company whose purpose is to build and lease a purpose-built building to the SEEL Research Centre in Nykvarn Municipality. The building contains a very advanced and extensive research laboratory and will be run by the state research institute RISE and Chalmers in a jointly owned company.
Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory, SEEL, is a test bed for research and development in electromobility, owned and run by Chalmers and RISE in a jointly owned company. The purpose is to strengthen efficient knowledge development and the conditions for collaboration in electrified transport, in Sweden and Europe. Players in the automotive industry, the aviation industry and the maritime sector, as well as other companies developing technology in relevant fields, get a shared platform on which to meet and can together benefit from the knowledge development and technology shift now taking place. At the same time, researchers at colleges, universities and research institutes get access to an advanced research infrastructure in electromobility. The test bed will be in operation in 2023.
