There is a need to supply northern Greater Stockholm and the Mälardalen region with commercial areas connected to the railway. Sigtuna Municipality has therefore drawn up a detailed development plan for the Brista business area within the properties Norrsunda Krogsta 16:3 and Norrsunda Brista 2:16. The plan area, which lies next to the Ostkustbanan (East Coast Line), is suitable for rail-based operations because there is existing infrastructure, including railway switches that can be shared by new operations. The detailed development plan aims to enable logistics and industrial operations with the option of a rail connection to the Ostkustbanan. The detailed development plan gained legal force on 4 January 2022.
To implement the detailed development plan, the Rosersbergsbäcken stream must be moved to a new course, wetlands must be constructed, a water area in the north-eastern part must be filled in, and groundwater must be drained away during the construction period. Under the Swedish Environmental Code, these measures constitute water operations, which require a permit from the Land and Environment Court. Kilenkrysset AB has therefore started work to prepare a permit application. A first step in the permit process is to hold a consultation under Chapter 6 of the Environmental Code with local residents, authorities, organisations and the public.
A consultation was held earlier, in autumn 2020, for water operations in the same area. Conditions in the area have since changed, as forest within the area has been felled. For this reason, a new consultation is being held.
The consultation mainly concerns excavation, piling and filling in the water area, rerouting the Rosersbergsbäcken stream to a new location, constructing wetlands and ponds for the treatment and retention of stormwater, and draining away groundwater. All of this is within the properties Norrsunda Krogsta 16:3 and Norrsunda Brista 2:16.
